SICK - LY

":OMG! Im sooo sick. I barely got any rest last night due to uncontrollable coughing fits! I got up outta bed this morning put on my sneakers and workout clothes and thought.. "I know I'm trying to be dedicated here by thinking I'm gonna go to the gym and push myself through another workout, but don't get sicker...!" As much as I wanted to get my body out of bed, I let my body have its rest period.

Thank god I did, went to the Dr. who told me on top of the obvious Laryngitis I already have, I may also have Whooping Cough, UGH! I really hate calling out of work, especially when I know I have just enough flying hours blocked to get by in paying my bills... Well there was def. a blog for you...

Nothing to Report other then bed rest, lots of soup eating, and more sleeping!

West Palm Beach, FL

Layover: West Palm Beach, FL

I ended up getting sick half way through the 3 flts I had yesterday.. Go figure!

No voice = Laryngitis!!

Be that as it may - I still managed to force myself outta bed this morning and downstairs to the gym. I've come such a long way and being sick wasn't gonna stop me from working out! I jumped on the treadmill for a little cardio to hopefully sweat out the sick-ness... Once I was done I felt great but now I'm starting to cough and my throat hurts a bit more. Looks like I gotta start taking it easy for the rest of the day and maybe into tomorrow.

However when I get better I've already got a game plan already planned out for a heavier weight, low rep, workout for my arms, back, legs, & shoulders so I can tone up! Yay me!

Treadmill - 35 mins. 287 cals. 2.16 miles.
Sprint 8 seconds @ level 8
Recover 12 seconds @ level 6
Repeat for 15 mins
Followed by face paced walk for 1 mile @ level 6
(couldn't get myself to do the 2 miles today b/c I'm sick)

(This was only my second time trying out the new treadmill workout I found... AND IT WORKS WONDERS!!)

Appalachian Trail - Delaware Water Gap

Hiking along the stream.
Steep rocky part of the trail with Cody!

Finally Reached the top of the mountain
Sunfish Lake (1 of 7 Natural Wonders in NJ!)
The lake was made by a Glacier.

Yesterday Chris, Cody (my dog), and I ventured over the the Delaware Water Gap to hike a good portion of the Appalachian Trail where it starts in NJ over by the PA side. We hiked at a steep/steady incline. It was a 4.5 hr hike with well over 7 miles covered! It felt great to be outdoors again! We were able to take a short half hour break at the top of the mountain at Sunfish Lake for lunch.
Today I had to commute back up to Boston and I'm getting ready now to fly out. I wont be able to work out today, but it makes for a good recovery day after the intense hike yesterday. Ive decided that once Ive built up my endurance enough with running, Id like to get into trail running. However, that may take me a while to build up to that.. ha ha ha... In the meantime ill stick to hiking as a fun outdoor activity!
I have a NJ layover late tonight, so Ill be hitting my own gym tomorrow morning!

Houston, TX

Layover: Houston, TX
Ok, so... Im about to update you on my misfortune of 2 days and nights in a row of terrible hotel gyms! The first time I was in New Orleans where I woke up extra early (even a long day of flying ahead of me.. to go to the gym) The gym was locked and no one could seem to find a key to open it or figure out how it got locked. By the time I sat around waiting for eveyone at the hotel to realize it, it was already too late to work out and I had to be getting ready to leave for the airport soon anyway. UGH! The day after I had met my boyfriend, Chris, just outside the Boston area so I could see him while we were both away for work but in the same city for once! While he went to work in the morning I located the gym, stretched, got on the treadmill to find some sort of ERROR reading across the treadmill computer. Typical.
My gym and workout schedule FINALLY got back on schedule yesterday in Houston, TX. Again its so hard to work out on the road to begin with and than when the hotel gyms are crappy and broken it is very discouraging... However, at least new hotels = new change of scenery for the hotels with nice gyms. So that way it is a bit of a switch up and your not always on the same machine twice!
Yesterdays work out via treadmill:
(Brought to you by B.Fit owner Ethel B)
The treadmill was set to end every 20mins (again hotel required)
1 mile warm up. 20 mins. 141 cals. Increased incline every 30 secs at walking pace of 3.4 til I reached level 10. Walked at level 10 for 2 full mins brought back down to .5 still walking at 3.4.
Jogged for 3 mins at 5.4 and than walked for 2 mins at 3.4. I was dripping! .7 mils with 83 cals burned.
Cooldown 5 mins. 20 cals. at .2 miles
I will be doing this workout again today! Cant wait to hit the gym. Later!

Pittsburgh, PA

Layover: Pittsburgh, PA
I'm not gonna lie, I really didn't give it my all today, which I am ashamed to admit! However I will say that the hotel that we stay in Pittsburgh has one of the nicest hotel gyms I've seen in a very long time.. If not.. EVER!
Stretching - Ive notice that my flexibility has gotten better when I stretch before and after a workout!
Elliptical - 2.08 miles. 220 cals. 26 mins.
Bike - 4.45 miles. 200 cals. 30 mins.
I didn't lift any weights today. I will lift tomorrow morning and plan to do abs tomorrow!
--------------------------------------------------------
Food Log: (Even though its mid-day)
Breakfast- Granola Nut Bar & Apple.
Lunch - Cream of Mushroom Soup & 1/2 Steak Salad.
Dinner - I plan to eat the other 1/2 of the Steak Salad.
*Ill be flying all night.

Back Tracking... My days off!

This post is gonna be a short back track of my 5 days off. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to log on and post my progress. Womp Womp!
So Flew back late Sunday Night...
Monday I went to the gym and did a combo of weights and cardio. Then I went skiing at Mt. Creek (and although its Mt. Creek, I still got an extra workout in skiing!)
Tuesday I did a bunch of running around, couldn't get to the gym, however I did make it up to Mt. Creek for skiing again!
Wednesday/Thursday I went and saw my grandma and than went to my cousins Confirmation. I was only able to get 20 mins. of walking the dog in each day... ughhh.. NOTHING INTENSE.. :(
Friday I went back to the gym before heading to the airport to Commute to Boston.. I tried to make up for Wed./Thurs. by doing an almost full hour of cardio! I have noticed that by all the cardio Ive been doing I'm less short of breath doing easier tasks. For example; walking up and down 2 flts of stairs with my suite case to the crew lounge in Boston. I used to huff and puff (like everyone else) and now it barely fazes me! Yay me!
I texted myself the workout I did on Friday, so I could remember when I blogged:
Elliptical - 2.30 miles. 30 mins. 251 cals.
Bike - 4.30 miles. 25 mins. 150 cals.
Ill have to find a way to keep better track of what I am eating.
For Lent I have given up potatoes/french fries/ chips. HARDEST THING EVER! lol!
I slacked off a little when I saw my grandma/family but I still made healthy choices. Rice/ veggies instead of Fries. Teriyaki Strip Steak.
Which leads me back to yesterday and today.
Yesterday I moved from one room in my crashpad to another room.. All that heavy lifting and moving made me break a sweat. I moved all by myself... No help... But now my back is feeling it. Than I had a late report with work and didn't get in to Pittsburgh until midnight.
I am headed to the hotel gym the second im done with this post so I can get a good workout in before flying out later today!

Video Workouts In Boston

Back to Base: Boston, MA

Yesterday I had a lengthy 3 leg day... LONGEST DAY EVER!

I wasn't able to get to the hotel gym, we got in so late and had to be up so early. So, needless to say, yesterday was a rest day from working out. I got back into the swing of things though by completing 2 workout videos tonight! Unfortunately, I don't have access to a gym in Boston so the workout videos were great!

I am officially started the INSANITY with Shaun T! I completed and recorded my first Fitness Test (30 min workout) than followed that with a fun Hula Dancing Cardio Workout (Killer on the Thighs and Hips!) Below are my recordings for my Fitness Test.

Switch Kicks: 45 in 1 min
Power Jacks: 40 in 1 min
Power Knees: 70 in 1 min on each side
Power Jumps: 20 in 1 min
Globe Jumps: 7 in 1 min
(BURPEES) Suicide Jumps: 15 in 1 min
Push-Up Jacks: 7 in 1 min
Low Plank Oblique: 25 in 1 min

Hopefully in 2 weeks from now I can see my recorded progress! Cant wait!
Flying home to NJ tomorrow after a Fort Myers, FL day turn! Hopefully I'll have enough time to get to the gym before dinner! LOL!

LaGaurdia, NY

Back to a Layover: LaGuardia (La Garbage), NY

Back to work after a day off.. I got to the hotel and went directly down to the gym (after a quick happy birthday call to my dad!)

As usual I started with a stretch excercise followed by 30 mins. on the Treadmill. Mixing it up with high incline/fast paced walking with some running... obviously forced myself to run every so often... Tried to run 1 min every 5 mins of the half hour.

15 mins. on elliptical. 1.11 miles in 15 mins.. the elliptical may have to be my new calling.. screw the treadmill at this point! I can get twice the work out on the elliptical for half the time!

I rotated between different sets of leg lifts, leg extentions, my Diamond Squat Walks, Back extensions with 5lbs weght, obliques drop lifts with 5 lbs weight.

Also managed to puch myself through 10 pushups.

Today is the first time I have noticed a change in my body since my healthy eating and exercise has started... I have noticed that instead of my face i have managed to loose my first bit of weight around my mid-section which most people would be thrilled with... which I also am HOWEVER.... It has only made my butt look waaaaaaaaaaaaay bigger than it already is! wtf!

Back to Boston!

Commuting Day: Newark to Boston

Even though I went home for the night, it was good to be in my own bed. It does do something for my sanity I think...

I woke up at a decent hour (7:30am) on my only day off.. And went to my gym (CRUNCH) and had a great 1.5hr work out! It felt great to be back at my gym instead of some crappy hotel gym!

Started with a great 10 min stretch workout and than began with my regular sets of "Diamond Squat Walk" and my "Jump Up. Down to Plank" than "Leg Touches".

I than switched up my cardio and did an intense section on the stationary bike. 30 mins at level 7 5 miles. I than went home and took Cody, my dog, for a fast paced walk around the peninsula and up to the church for Ash Wednesday, got my ashes, and walked home. It was good to be outside!

------------------------------------------------
Breakfast: 1 Natures Promise Blueberry Waffle with fresh blueberries and blueberry flavored agave syrup

Post workout snack: First time I ever bought/tried CRUNCH's chocolate peanut butter protein shake (tried to get a small they only serve one size!)

Lunch: Mediterranean style lettuce/salad with Asian ginger vinaigrette and freshly cut strawberries

Dinner: Miso Soup and a plain piece of grilled chicken

Fort Myers, FL

Layover: Fort Myers, FL
(2/21/12) I'm posting this a day late due to crazy day and couldn't get on!

So Today was one of those days that was supposed to be short and easy but turned into a long, exhausting day at work. I woke up at 4:45am EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE TO.. to get a full workout in before my one flt back to Boston. While I was in the middle of my workout I got a phone call from Crew Services telling me that me plane was to be delayed 3hrs and that I could have slept in... DAMN IT! My departure was now at 11am.. typical! I finished my work out and was fully awake so I went and grabbed the breakfast buffet.

Workout: Full stretch workout. The more I stretch the better Ive been feeling post-workout. I than did 2 sets of 5 of the Diamond Squat Walk. I than mixed up a few of my favorite moves from the Insanity workout in such as the "Jump Up. Down to Plank" and some sets of "Knee Touches". I may have just made up those names but I did a few sets of each. Than I did my DREADED lifting for arms... I used a 5lbs weight and did goal post, bicep curls, triceps extension, and straight out arm holds... ugh it was painful! I than got on the treadmill and walked at a bunch of different intervals and speeds. Still could get myself to run just yet... especially that early in the morning!

Needless to say, that delay almost caused me to miss my commute home to NJ.. But than when we landed in Boston guess who was escorted off the plane for a random drug and alcohol test... UGHHHHHH!! I made my commuting flt by seconds! Just went back to NJ for the night though... Totally worth it!
---------------------------------------

Breakfast: 2 egg whites/1 egg over easy, OJ, fresh strawberries and melon, and 2 pieces of bacon.

Lunch/Snack: Parmesan/basil flavored crackers with the tomatoes/basil/onion chopped salad

Dinner: Homemade cheese tortellini with fresh spinach, sun dried tomatoes in a cheese sauce... delicious!

Desert: 2 chocolates from my v.day heart box! :)

LaGuardia, NY

Layover: LaGuardia (La Garbage), NY

Today I wasnt feeling all that well. It may have something to do with waking up at 3:30am every morning for the last 4 days in a row. When I arrived to the hotel today, instead of going straight to the gym, I opted to lay down in bed at 3pm... and although I was exhausted, the longest nap I had was 25mins... TOPS! Once I convinced myself to get up, I had a bowl of homemade chicken tortellini soup from the resturant, went back to my room to diguest for a bit before FINALLY hitting the gym. I would like to say that Im happy Im back in the flow of going to the gym. When I was working at a gym, it was easier to work out because it was so easy to access, however it has taken me almost a little over a year to recover from the random hotel (good/bad) gym swap!

Stretched out my legs and arms, my right shoulder blade has been tight and sore for the last 2 days, I may have lifted a passengers luggage the wrong way... ugh!

After stretching I hit the treadmill fast paced walking at different inclines. Final Result: 35mins. 180 calories burned. 1.55miles. I know it doesnt seem like a lot in distance for 35 mins. but I had it on some semi-steep inclines today. Trying to turn up the heat and switch up my regular "walking on the treadmill for a minimum of 20mins".

I than did 30 "dog" leg lifts on each leg (2 sets of 15), followed by as many "walking diamond-shaped" squats as I could do. I hit the elliptical for a failed attempt of 5 mins. followed by my most favorite workout on the Insanity Video Tapes that I will be slowly starting again. Which was a high jump, to squat, to push up postition back to start... Im trying to describe these as best as possible, since im not a trained professional with training! LOL!
----------------------------------------------------
Todays Food Log:

Breakfast: Granola Nut Bar, Apple/Cranberry juice.

Snack: munched on a few Carrots, Wheat Thins with a tamatoe/basil/onion salad thing... It was delisious!! It will be my newest favorite snack to bring with me on a trip.

Lunch/Dinner: Chicken Tortellini Soup, 1 Slice of Margarita Pizza (Im in NY!! Had to have a slice of NY Pizza!)

After workout Snack: Fiji Apple

Burlington, VT

I'm currently on a Burlington, Vermont layover..

I managed to not only force myself to get online to continue my blog, but also made myself get to the gym right away (so proud of myself). HOWEVER, the hotel gym at our crew hotel wasn't the greatest! This is another problem I run into A LOT on the road. Crappy hotel gyms are very unmotivating, especially when Ive been up since 4:30am and all Id rather do is take a nap! However, I made do, and managed to get myself on the elliptical for 15 mins, then the stationary bike for 5 mins until 1 out of 2 of the "crappy" treadmills were available. Than I walked at speed 3.0 and a 3% incline for 20 more mins. There was no free weight area but I did take a nice long stretch-workout after my cardio.

So yesterday I notice that my feet hurt sooooo bad after my workout. Im on my feet all day with work to begin with, but yesterday they hurt more than usual. Every winter, since before I can even remember, my feet and heals get very dry and even cracked. So today I tried an experiment and lathered a think layer of vaseline on my heals to help with not only the friction but to also help releive some of the pain and it worked. Right now though as I type this I can feel my heals starting to ache again.. Maybe I will try to put some more on. I have very expensive orthotics in my shoes, so I know its not due to cheap footwear. I also notice that for the short 5 mins on the stationary bike today, my back hurt a lot. I know my main focus needs to be on core (abs and back) due to my weak core. Hopefully that is something I can build upon over the next few weeks.

I figured that even though it wasn't a stellar workout I at least got myself to the gym and did a mixture of cardio. BETTER THAN NOTHING!

-----------------------
Today's Food Log:

Breakfast: Nut Granola Bar/ Fuji Apple

Snack/Pick me up: carrots/ apple juice and cranberry juice mixed together (apple/cranberry)

Lunch: Cold leftovers on the plane of my Tilapia Fish, 2 Shrimp, and Rice.

Snack (Pre-Workout): Carrots

Dinner (After Workout): Half a plate of pita chips and spinach/ artichoke/ brie dip with 1 glass of white wine

I know right now Im just forcing myself into better habits, and It may be rough right now, but the overall outcome will be better in the end!

Making New Waves in 2012

I know I haven't been on in a long while...

I will be re-vamping and transforming my artist blog into a new blog about my general life goals and achievements where I will be first focusing in on my overall health and fitness. My goals will be outlined via a blogging method and will hopefully serve as not only a written reminder of my hard work and dedication to getting my body back on a healthier path, but also as a food journal/workout log.

I have recently entered a contest with Ethel B's B.Fit Lifestyle and hope that this will also give me the push and drive to continue with my, hopefully, healthier lifestyle continuing even post-contest. The contest will begin Feb. 20, 2012. However, due to my recent absence in blogging I figured I should begin trying this out a few days before the contest even starts, so I can get back into the online blogging mode.

I have found that being a flt. attendant has its ups and downs... One of the downs is not being able to eat healthy when your constantly on the road (or in the air for that matter). Below is an example of what my entries will somewhat look like. This is today's blog!

TODAY: BOS-DCA, DCA-FLL, FLL-RIC (3 flts.)
Breakfast: Planters Granola Bar/Carrots

Lunch:Planters Granola Bar/ Greek Yogurt (Forced it down, still cant get the hang of the sour Greek yogurt taste... ick! But I ate it so thats all that matters!)

Snack: 3 homemade chocolate covered strawberries (left over from valentines day!) and 1 small mixed nut bag from the plane.

Dinner: Tilapia and Shrimp with a side of Mexican Rice (from the Mexican Restaurant that the crew and I went to... Tried my best to pick out a healthy and authentic meal!)
-----------------------------------

Workout (1hr) before dinner.
Stretches, Ab workout on the large blow-up ball thing... lol, 20mins on bike, 20 mins walking on the treadmill. Gotta somehow force myself on the Elliptical... Not sure how to do that!

The End.
Great First Post, Keep yourself Motivated Courtney!
